By the time your child turns two, you need to start thinking about moving them from a crib to a bed. You might think your toddler is just fine sleeping in a crib, until the little daredevil surprises you by climbing over the top! If space is a problem, they could sleep in a toddler bed until around four years old. But that’s just a temporary solution, because you’ll need to move them to a bigger bed eventually.
When shopping for children’s bedroom furniture, safety should be your foremost concern. Steer clear of furniture with sharp edges or other potential hazards. Dressers and bookcases should be attached to a wall to prevent tipping. Dresser drawers should be soft-closing to avoid pinched fingers. Beds should be low to the floor so kids won’t have to climb too high to get in and out. If the floor isn’t carpeted, consider using plush area rugs to help protect against injuries from falls. Lamps and nightlights should be low voltage to reduce the danger of electric shock.
Resist the temptation to decorate your kid’s room in a childish theme, which they will outgrow quickly. Instead, we recommend buying timeless, well-constructed furniture pieces that can be used for at least 15 years, and probably much longer.
At Nini and Loli, we carry a large selection of safe, eco-friendly children’s bedroom furniture made with materials that are non-toxic and sustainable. Most of the furniture we sell is made in the USA, Canada or Europe. We also offer a choice of American-made organic mattresses in sizes to fit bassinets, cribs, twin, full, and queen bed sizes. Many of our furniture items and mattresses are GREEGUARD Certified, which means they’ve been lab-tested and are free of harmful chemicals emissions.
If you’re a parent, you already know that kids can accumulate a lot of stuff, and it’s difficult to find places to hide it all away. Using attractive, multifunctional toy chests & storage bins can help cut down on clutter. Consider using transparent, wall-mounted bookshelves to display their favorite books with the covers facing forward. Set up a play table so they have a designated area to work on creative projects. Place everything at a low enough height that your kids can access it themselves, which can also help them get into the habit of putting their things away.
