Family Giraffidae. Tallest land mammal. Its long neck enables this unmistakable inhabitant of Africa"s savannah to browse on vegetation w/c is its primary food. Male ave. 5.3 m in height, & with its 40cm tongue is able to reach high into acacia trees. About 15 mos. the cow bears a single calf, 1.7-2 m high, which can stand 20 minutes after birth. Lifespan: 25 yrs. in the wild.
